What our users say:

Incredible App!!! - ★★★★★
I own a guitar studio and have taught guitar for over 10 years and this App is amazing!!!! My students absolutely love it and it makes chord practice and memorization not only easy but fun! The chord detector is spot on - I usually use this app for about 5-10 minutes with my beginner students to warm up on their chords. With the latest update they added the wonderful feature of being able to select which chords you or your students will be tested on! 5 stars! Keep up the great work guys!!!

Now with massively improved Chord Detection engine and twice as many chords to practice than in the previous version.

Chord Tutor is intended to help musicians of any ability but especially beginners, to improve chord playing in an interesting and fun way.

Chord Tutor uses chord detection technology developed for our Chord Detector App to tell you how accurately you played each chord. The App rates your accuracy and speed for each chord, giving you a 3 star rating.

Select "Chord Practice" from the Chord Tutor welcome screen and after a five second countdown you will be presented with a chord, you then have 10 seconds to play the chord on your instrument. The App listens to what you play and once the time is up will rate you on how quickly and accurately you played the chord.

Here are Chord Tutors main features:-

• The app includes 48 Major, Minor, Major7 and Minor7 chords divided into 3 difficulty levels.
• New improved chord detection engine.
• Custom practice mode, select the chords you want to practice.
• Tutorial mode.
• Chord diagrams in guitar format and standard musical notation format.
• High score table to check your progress.
• Tips for improving your score.

Latest reviews of Chord Tutor app for iPhone and iPad

Great app - but needs to deal better with low memory
I previously rated this app at 2 stars because of a problem with the app hanging after just a few chords... see my update below. Update 26OCT2011 - once i shut down all apps and did a full shutdown/restart of the ipad2 and restart this program no longer hangs. I have requested to the app developer to perhaps deal with low memory conditions better or have the app let us know when it doesnt have enough memory and how to deal with it rather than just leaving us hanging with a frozen screen. Now that I have this working Ive changed my rating from 2 to 4 - when the app handles low-memory better I will gladly give it 5 stars. Great app to practice chords with and i look forward to more. Will update my review here as I experience more. I use the apogee jam to connect my guitar and its working pretty well so far.
Fun, but freezes
A decent app, and come on, its 99 cents. It tends to freeze up, though, and that stinks. Doesnt always recognize the correct chords, either.
Inaccurate
This app is inaccurate it showed the D minor chord and I played the C major chord and it says I that I played the right chord. It would also be nice if this app would work with the midi mobilizer.

Great application
You have to make sure your piano is well tuned but once it is, it will work great. I found it a bit difficult to earn a good speed score regardless of a true fast play. But it is overall very helpful for students learning how to play chords. Note: I use a Steinway upright.
